It's October, and that means it's time to read some horror novels, or better yet, watch movies based on them! Edgar Allen Poe wrote a lot of creepy stories about tooth-stealing and cousin-marrying, but he's probably most famous for that poem he wrote for The Simpsons.
We have never personally read an entire H.P. Lovecraft story, mainly because he uses too many big words, but we've found that whenever we are talking about horror with smart people, it's useful to call things "Lovecraftian." It's like the word "ironic"--you can just use it as a synonym for "weird."
There's nothing hotter than vampires, and that's why we love Bram Stoker! He wrote Dracula, which we never got around to finishing in high school, but we've seen every movie version. Well, not the boring black and white ones, but the Winona Ryder one for sure, plus the Dracula episode of Buffy. And we're totally intoTrue Blood right now--did he write that, too?
